reduce-your-water-footprint-thumb Each year, 35 billion plastic water bottles are thrown in the trash in the United States alone, and they are 100 percent recyclable. Moreover, 90 percent of the trash that covers the ocean’s surface is plastic. Plastic bottles break down in the oceans and become ingested by birds and other marine life. Plus, the total carbon footprint of one 500 ml (16.9 oz) bottle of water is 828g of carbon dioxide. Water transported from overseas can have an even higher footprint! Since an estimated 50 to 80 percent of all life on earth is found under the ocean’s surface, it’s up to humans to do something that will keep trash out or our oceans. Check out this infographic to learn how you can reduce your water footprint by drinking local. According to the infographic, nearly all water bottles are made from PET a plastic produced from crude oil. Bottles that are not recycled end up in landfills, where they never truly degrade, and in oceans where they break down and can be ingested by birds and other marine life. reduce-your-water-footprint-infographic Source: http://www.wheelsforwishes.org/bottled-water-footprint/
