There are now 882 domain name extensions. You can see them all on a timeline in this new infographic from European Domain Centre. From 1985 to 2013 270 top-level domain went live. During the last three years, +600 more are now available. You will get the full list of domain extensions with this unique resource.
According to the statistics, there are more than 300 million top domain names registered. Most of them are ccTLDs and .com domains. Only 4% of the top level domain distribution comprises nTLDs - the new domains such as .guru and .club.
Following the increase of domains available over the years is fascinating. For instance, in 1985 there were only 3 country domains - .il, .uk and .us. In the next years, the number of country code domains skyrocketed and nowadays we even have top domains in Cyrillic. So, we can say that this infographic shows the
evolution of Internet.
