Rio 2016 games were the first Olympic games ever held in South America since the Antiquity. The summer Olympics have been held 27 times in total. In Rio were held not only the Olympics games but also the so known Paralympic games after the end of the first ones. The Olympic flame was lit at the temple of Hera in Olympia on 21 April 2016. On 27 April, the flame was handed over the Brazilian organizers at a ceremony at the Panathenaic stadium in Athens to begin a 95-day tour in Brazil through 83 cities, 26 state capitals and 500 towns.
